Euthanasia

Intentional life-ending practices described as euthanasia or medical assistance in dying.

Twelve-Year-Old Euthanized in the Netherlands: Not a First

The media is (properly) reporting that a Dutch doctor euthanized — i.e. killed — a sick twelve-year-old child (illness not reported). It is a “first” under a new Dutch law that allows euthanasia for children ages one to twelve. From the story in The Independent: In a latter to parliament, Dutch health minister Sophie Hermans said that the child had died last year but did not clarify their age, date of death or the illness that they suffered, according to broadcaster NOS. The law in the Netherlands was changed in 2014 to extend euthanasia to children under the age of 12 to allow them to “die wi

Globe and Mail journalist calls 100k assisted suicides a ’cause for celebration’

Over the past decade, many in the international press have openly wondered how Canada’s euthanasia regime went off the rails so swiftly and so grotesquely that other nations have decided against legalizing assisted suicide for fear of turning into Canada. There are, of course, many answers to that question, but one cannot be emphasized enough: Canada [...] The post Globe and Mail journalist calls 100k assisted suicides a ’cause for celebration’ first appeared on The Bridgehead .

They said there would be no slippery slope

When issues like abortion or euthanasia are debated, opponents issue warnings about the ‘slippery slope’ and predict that the ‘floodgates will open’. By this they mean that after either one is introduced, the grounds for it will expand, and the numbers availing of it will increase. Proponents deny either of these things will happen. For […] The post They said there would be no slippery slope first appeared on The Iona Institute .

‘Help me!’: Botched euthanasia exposes the horrific reality behind ‘medical aid in dying’

The great victory of suicide activists has been to sanitize and medicalize the killing of human beings. We cannot use words like “suicide” or “killing”; we must instead use false, propagandistic language like “medical aid in dying” or, preferably, the official-sounding acronym “MAID.” Suicide and killing still make us uncomfortable, and so the terms have [...] The post ‘Help me!’: Botched euthanasia exposes the horrific reality behind ‘medical aid in dying’ first appeared on The Bridgehead .

Fewer than 10% of UK voters view euthanasia as a priority issue: new poll

According to an exclusive June 2 report from the Daily Mail, fewer than one in ten U.K. voters consider assisted suicide a priority for their Member of Parliament. The mega-poll of over 10,000 people comes as a blow to suicide activists, who are desperately trying to resurrect Labour MP Kim Leadbeater’s euthanasia bill that died in the House [...] The post Fewer than 10% of UK voters view euthanasia as a priority issue: new poll first appeared on The Bridgehead .

A New Case for Medical-Aid-In-Dying?

Apart from any further consideration of ultimate intention, euthanasia and assisted suicide are actions that directly and purposely seek to kill the patient for the “crime” of being ill or sick. They necessarily contradict our human dignity and cannot be ordered to the love of God and neighbor, including and especially the sick and suffering.

Bioethicists: “Terminally Sedate” People Committing Suicide by Self-Starvation

In a newly released paper in the prestigious journal Bioethics, three prominent bioethicists argue that when someone decides to commit suicide via self-starvation and dehydration — known in euthanasia movement parlance as “voluntary stop eating and drinking” (VSED) — doctors should be allowed to “terminally sedate” the person trying to die when necessary to prevent intractable suffering. Patients who commit VSED are often not terminally ill. In fact, euthanasia organizations promote self-starvation to the elderly who are not dying and as a means of becoming eligible for assisted suicide where

Would New Jersey Bill Authorize Slow-Motion Euthanasia of Dementia Patients?

Serious moves are afoot to allow ending the lives of dementia patients, either by allowing them to be killed by lethal jab euthanasia if requested in a written advance directive (where legal), or to allow a document to be signed requiring caregivers to withhold sufficient food and water to sustain life. New Jersey seems to move subtly in the latter direction with a vaguely worded bill, S.B. 4186, that could open the door to intentional legal undernourishment. From the bill: It is the public policy of this State to respect the dignity, autonomy, and previously expressed wishes of individuals li

A Good Sign: Alberta Makes Legal Euthanasia Harder to Access

Canada has gone hog wild for euthanasia. But the pro-death tide may — may — be beginning to turn. The province of Alberta just passed a bill that significantly restricts eligibility for euthanasia (medical aid in dying, or MAID), soon to be signed into binding law. The biggest change in Bill 18 ends the eligibility of non-terminally-ill patients to be MAIDed (known as Track 2). Among the provisions of Bill 18 (“Safeguards for Last Resort Termination of Life Act”), as summarized by the government: Eligibility in Alberta to individuals 18 and over with capacity to make their own health care deci

Canada’s Euthanasia Regime: Efficiency and Death vs. True Compassion and Dignity

“Euthanasia is a false solution to the drama of suffering, a solution that is not worthy of man. Grieving Mother Dies at Swiss Suicide Clinic

Wendy Duffy, 56, died at the Pegasos assisted suicide clinic in Basel, in what the controversial organization called a “sane suicide,” the Daily Mail reported. “I can confirm that Wendy Duffy, at her own request, was assisted to die on April

Activists Want Fewer Animal — but More Human — Deaths by Euthanasia

After a bear was euthanized in California because she paw-swiped a human who owned a house under which the bruin and her cubs were living, there was a popular outcry. Now, a bill has been put in the hopper in the California State Senate promoting “coexistence” between people and wild animals. From S.B. 1135: It is the policy of the state that the management of wildlife shall include an emphasis on the coexistence of humans and wildlife through department-led efforts to reduce, minimize, and mitigate conflicts. These efforts shall also seek to align with the state’s conservation, public safety,

Only 41% of Canadians support doctors who oppose euthanasia: new survey

It shouldn’t have to be said, but apparently it does, so here goes: Forcing doctors to kill people or to participate in killing people against the dictates of their conscience is Nazi-level bad. Euthanasia and Organ Harvesting Reveal Western Medicine’s Utilitarian Drift

Chinese doctors murder and organ harvest political prisoners. As detailed in “Killed to Order,” a thoroughly researched new book by Epoch Times senior editor Jan Jekielek, political prisoners such as Falun Gong practitioners and Uygur Muslims are tissue-typed and killed to supply product for the country’s burgeoning transplant black market in human kidneys and livers. This is why the wait for a vital organ in China may be as short as a week, whereas it may take years in countries with ethical transplant systems. The Chinese Communist Party is an unmitigated tyranny, and the government deploys
