Eileen Mihich deserved better. Aging With Dignity has put out a powerful, short film that further dispels the disingenuous claims by ableist proponents of assisted suicide laws that there has never been a single instance in which safeguards have failed. To the assisted suicide proponent question: Where is the evidence of abuse, coercion and error? […]

For some it may be unthinkable at any time of the year, let alone during the holiday season, that there is a cadre of relentless professional assisted suicide advocacy organizations seeking more efficient ways for people with disabilities to kill themselves during this national moment when Medicare, SNAP, and “streamlined” federal departments (i.e. HUD ) […]
The Illinois State Senate, just passed an assisted suicide bill, dressed as a food preparation bill, to make it easier for disabled people to die, not to live. In this worst possible national moment, Illinois proponents decided in the interest of vulnerable Illinoisans that now was the time to sneak an assisted suicide bill amendment […]

Dovie Eisner, a 34-year-old disabled New Yorker with nemaline myopathy, is currently hospitalized and urges Governor Hochul to veto New York's medical aid in dying law, which he and others consider the worst of its kind. Eisner initially urged the New York Senate to reject Senate Bill 138 and continues to advocate against assisted suicide laws through the disability rights organization Not Dead Yet.
By Lisa Blumberg Lisa Blumberg The traditional strategy of groups promoting assisted suicide for initially passing a law legalizing the practice is by touting a few minimal requirements as inviolable safeguards. Assisted suicide, they assert, will be a rarely used option for a small, well-vetted cohort of people who are dying, suffering and with […]
On June 9, the New York state senate with scant debate narrowly passed S. 138 which legalizes medically assisted suicide in a broad way. The state assembly passed a similar measure recently, again narrowly, so now S. 138 goes to New York Governor Hochul who can either veto or sign it. This is in no […]
What Governor Hochul does with the assisted suicide bill that the NY Senate passed this past Monday will speak volumes about how in-tune she is with the progressive international disability rights movement — and more importantly, with New Yorkers who reject the idea that suicide is rational, just because a person has a disability. […]
In every matter, when autonomy is the foundational argument, informed choice must be protected and made fully aware of underlying dangers. Following the courageous lead of his predecessor who vetoed a similar bill last year, and on behalf of Delaware’s Not Dead Yet members, we urge Delaware Governor Matt Meyer to veto HB 140. This […]
It is disturbing that at a time when the healthcare system is so broken and so many people struggle to get the care and practical support, they need that New York would want to try repeatedly pass legislation which would legalize doctor assisted suicide. The state has shown good judgment in rejecting the idea before […]
On March 26, 2025, the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities called on Canada to repeal Track 2 of its assisted suicide and euthanasia program, which allows people with disabilities whose natural death is not reasonably foreseeable to request assisted suicide or euthanasia. The committee criticized the program for basing eligibility on ableist perceptions of disability and suffering, and stated that safeguards do not guarantee support for persons with disabilities, emphasizing that suffering is caused by inequality and discrimination rather than disability itself.

The Times Weekly published this opinion letter by Illinois disability advocate Pam Heavens on October 2nd: The Illinois General Assembly is considering a bill that will legalize physician-assisted suicide. I am a 68-year-old Disabled woman and proud member of “Stop Assisted Suicide Illinois Coalition”, which vehemently opposes this bill. This organization includes representatives from diverse […]
Introduction Assisted suicide is often presented as a compassionate choice for those experiencing unbearable suffering. However, as someone who has navigated life’s challenges as a disability rights advocate and someone who was once confined to a nursing home, I see a troubling oversight in this narrative. It fails to consider the systemic barriers that prevent […]
Thanks to those who have contributed funds, ideas, and/or moral support, the Progressives Against Medical Assisted Suicide (PAMAS) film about the social and humanitarian dangers of legalizing medical assisted suicide is on target for completion by the end of the year. On September 16th, four interviews were filmed, each powerful in its own way. We […]
